What is Zumba?
Zumba is a new fitness craze that combines the dance moves of traditional Latin dances with aerobic exercise. In other words, Zumba is the new way to get active! Zumba is a type of aerobic high-intensity workout that will get your body moving, blood pumping, and you sweating. Zumba disguises a hard-cardio workout with the fun and high energy of dancing with your friends.
Origin of Zumba
Where did Zumba originate from? In was invented in the mid-1990s by Beto, a dancer, and choreographer. One day he forgot his music for his aerobics class so he decided to use his Latin music, traditionally used for merengue and salsa, instead. He integrated some traditional Latin dance moves into his aerobics class and Zumba was born!
What is a Zumba class like?
A typical Zumba class usually is 50 to 60 minutes long. The Zumba instructor will be in the front of the class facing the participates. Throughout the class, the participants will mirror the instructor’s moves. The class typically will consist of 10 -12 songs, often mostly Latin-inspired music; however, most Zumba classes include popular music as well. The dance moves are based on basic steps found in salsa, merengue, cumbia, and samba. The dance moves are then integrated with typically cardio and toning moves.
